Hey guys and gals got a dilemma.

My VT Rufus usually has lovely long flowing fins but it seems as soon as they get nice and pretty a chunk goes missing
He is sharing his tank with a baby bn who stays away from Rufus as much as possible and there are no sharp areas in the tank.
I thought at first he was attacking his own fins but he just isnt bothered by them he is always active investigating everything but i cant see what if there is anything he is catching his tail on
Any help would be grateful :good:

What sort of filter do you have? If it's an internal cannister or a HOB, anything with an intake grill basically, then ziptie some fine plastic mesh, or a length off the leg of a pair of old ( clean ) tights over the intake.

If he isn't chewing on himself and there is definitely nothing sharp then it may be your filter intake sucking him in a little ( though since there should be only sponges inside there I still don't see what there is to catch himself on, but better safe than sorry )

The filter is one that hangs over the top and sucks water from the bottom upwards (sorry no idea what propper name for em is lol)

That could be it but it isnt on a powerful setting i never even thought of that though thanks :good:
