nearly all pet shops dont sell live food (apart from brine shrimp but these are adult and to big for betta fry) unless it is a specialist betta shop i have never seen live food or cultures in a pet shop it sounds to me as you havent researched at all because the glass chimney is one of the first things said in most breeding topics if you cant buy supplies of the internet it will be one big struggle to get all the equipment you need i think min tank size for breeding is 3g my friend just did a breed in this size tank and his pair bred lovely :good: i think if u can persuade your mom to let u buy of the internet then it might be a good idea but otherwise i wouldnt try. and i agree with what sue said do you know how to cure basic symptoms like constapation or swim bladder?
Good Luck
Luke.

I meant 10-15$ for the brine shrimp. And yes, pelleted food rots. Live/frozen food must be used for the parents in conditioning, not for the babies. In bettas, there is no "Cutting corners."

Also you could end up with hundreds of unwanted babies, what do you plan on doing with them, feeder fish ???

I'm gonna keep them.

If you managed to get fry, what would you feed them?

Bettas are not dogs that breed in alleys. You need more time to become better aquainted with the species in general.

A female Betta can also damage the male; it happens. Do you know how to care for a damaged Betta? Do you have IAL? Do you have meds in case there is a need. Just caring for and keeping Betta is a challenge.

Take your time and find out what it is all about. If you don't have the money for a decent pair, do you have the money to raise the fry?

Dead food rots. It will cause the fry to fungus. You have lots to learn about the basics of fish keeping.

Someone told me to feed them live food. I'll feed them live bloodworms or something if I do manage to get fry.

What is "IAL"? I have these drops that you drop in the tank where it gets rid of the chlorine in the tank. What kind of meds do you need?

Someone told me to give them little pieces of cooked peas to cure swim bladder. How are you suppose to cure them?

you will keep them? hundreds of them? well i wouldnt worry, sounds like it wont be a success anyway. sounds like your going to end up with dead fish. harsh i know but you clearly arent listening to what folk are saying on here.

my fry are 5 weeks old and still not big enough to take bloodworms, so no you wont feed fry on live bloodworms, more like you will be feeding bloodworms on betta fry.

anyone else think tis sounds like a wind up?

It is time to say, "Read the pinned topics, then Google the net to read up on Bettas." Breed some mice in the meantime.

It has taken us years of research and experience to learn the things you are asking us to teach you in one thread. Time to do the research and get the experience one step at a time.

It is admirable that you want to keep Bettas. They are a lovely fish. But keep the ones you've got alive and healthy for a year while reading and studying up on them, then maybe you will be ready to breed Bettas. You have the cart dragging the horse down a steep hill. Put the brakes on.

I never said that I wasn't going to do the research. Who said I wasn't? I never said it because I was just answering the questions that people have asked me. And plus, i'm new at this. What's wrong with that? If I don't get something, tell me or teach me until I get it. No need to be rude about it.

Frozen food also rots.

If I seem rude, I am sorry. But it is time for you to read the pinned topics and do some Googling, so that even your questions are a little more learned.

People have been answering your questions patiently and for several pages and attempting to teach you, but your foundation is weak. The questions are answered and then you ask, "why do I have to do it that way?" Then say some statement like, "I am going to keep the fry." Or, "I am going to feed the new fry blood worms." And yet you have already attempted to breed the fish and are ready to jump in and do it again! We are trying to tell you that you are far from being ready to go there. But so far it does not appear that you are listening.

And so some of us have said, "Do your homework."

But if K.J. is ready to continue to patiently answer your questions, have a go. Nevertheless, the impression you are making is that you will do what you want whatever you are "taught."

Again, I am sorry I am seeming rude. I would have said "blunt."

Ok. I get it. I'm not ready yet. Ok? I won't do it again. What do you want me to do? I'm not perfect. As I said before, I am new at this and so sometimes I don't even know how to ask the questions. I just want people to know what I'm talking about. The only reason I ask more questions is because I want to make sure I get it, make sure I got all my facts straight, make sure that that's the way I need to do it. I know everything needs to be perfect before I try it again and that's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to make sure everything is perfect before I do it again, that's why I keep asking questions. Is there anything wrong with that? Even if I'm not perfect, I want to make sure what I'm doing is. Do you understand? I'm trying to understand. Sometimes I don't understand some of the things people are saying on here so I'm just trying to find out what they mean. I'm just a girl, just one person. I'm not some crazy person. :S So, sorry if i seem "stupid" or "dumb" to you.

no i dont think you get it and i think your jumping the gun entirely. people are trying to give you advice and you blatently arent taking it on board. noone said you were stupid or dumb, but thats how you are making yourself out to be by saying so!

 :good:

Yeah, it's something in the atmosphere. Lex Luther has a beam pointed at the earth to make us all into flaring flaming Betta fighters.

It is a practice to point new members with a need for foundational information to the pinned topics. Some members do that before any questions are answered. I am in favor of answering a few and then pointing to the pins.

I am always ashamed if I have discouraged or hurt a new member by being abrupt. So sorry.

But understand that after a question has been answered a few times, people get weary if it seems not to be getting through. I get more and more blunt. We are just human too.

Many Betta keepers get testy about folks throwing 2 Bettas together--2 males or a male and a female. Once "don't!" is said a few times, some of us don't want to say it again and wonder if anyone is listening.

Once "Read up!" is repeated by several members, frustrating sets in.

I hope I am explaining in a way that helps and doesn't seem to be condensending or rude or lecturing.

Now several people will probably offer their ideas. It's just how it works.

No, you're wrong. I do get it. The point is, I'm not ready yet. I need to have everything perfect before I try it again. I need alot more things than what I already have. I'm trying to understand everything else but it gets confusing sometimes. I know no one called me stupid or dumb but that's the impression I'm getting. What do you want me to do?

I'm trying to understand everything but it just gets confusing sometimes. I mean, everyone is giving me advice but I just don't know which one I should follow/listen to. Some people tell me to do this and then others are like "that's not right" or something and tell me to do something else. I'm trying to understand, I really am but it just gets confusing sometimes. How do you think I'm not listening?

I think if you take your time and work at keeping the fish you have well and healthy while continuing to listen and learn and experience, you will get where you want to be or change your direction because you understand better. That is what I meant when I referred to trying to tell you everything it took us years of experience to get in one thread.

To get from point A to point B you take one step at a time.

Basically I am saying what elders have always said to younguns, "Don't be in such a hurry." ;) That's what I was trying to get at but poorly with the Cart racing ahead of the horse comment.

Come on the forum. Watch for threads that interest you. Read, join in, make it part of your life.

Most of us have learned hard lesson many times over, even after we were warned. We tried things and they seemed to work, and then fell apart, making a mess. We argued and fussed and insisted we were right, while those who knew raised eybrows, yelled or held our hand and refused to send us any fish.

I suppose there are some that don't belong to this royal we club that learns things the hard way too often.

BTW do you have a nickname? I am going to have trouble with that one, forgOtt.

Sorry I missed the important part, confusing and conflicting advice. Find mentors that seem to know and have time and explain in a way you can understand. Someone with several years of experience with many fish is preferable. And take it a step at a time. You will find your way through the confusion one success and one failure at a time.

There are different approaches to fish keeping. Many are just as good as another; some are better than others.
