Filtration

ooops sorry. forums did that.

I think that people bring down juwel equiptment either because the got a foult that was nothing to do with juwel itself. Or they cannot aford one so they try to stop others buying them. Juwel tanks are superb and if you dont believe me tell me why my discus are thriving.

I run 12 tanks and have full access to Juwel tanks but choose to build my systems from seperate quality items rather than go for the cheaper package option. My first two "proper" aquariums were Juwels and i was very pleased with the first but after a run of almost continuous disasters with the second which was Rio 300 i decided that cheaper certainly doesnt mean better.
The key thing to remember with Juwel tanks is that they are designed for the European market where fish keeping practises are very different to those in the UK, on the continent the emphasis is usually placed on plants with just a few very small fish as livestock and Juwel filters are perfectly geared towards this, but when used for English (and American) style fish keeping which is usually stocking the tank with as many fish as it can safely hold and then using the plants to make the tank "prettier" and as a tool to soak up a little excess nitrate the filters do not function as well and require a little more maintainance then most people are prepared to give.

must admit i thought my juwel filter was pants too,it was a pain to clean. I ripped it out and now use an external filter (so easy to use and clean)

I agree. I clean my Juwel mech filters each week, chemical each month and bios every 4-6 months, it is a brilliant system. I also blast the powerhead through with water every so often, this stops it clogging. It's got a really good flow when clean, great combination system. :flex:  :D

Yep they are crap. Always a pain to clean.

Will be getting an Eheim external in January :)

:dunno: :dunno: :rip: Right, so glad I found this thread. I have a rio 180, latest pic attached. What I want to know from you guys is this: If I fit an external Eheim Ecco 2233 or maybe Eheim Pro 2224, can I use my alredy installed Juwel compact filter as a through canister. By this I mean, connect the outlet fom the Juwel to the inlet of the Eheim. To do this I intended to remove the impeller from the Juwell and not have it switched on at all. I was going to fill the Juwel with perhaps just a load of Floss and perhaps some JBL Phos EX phoshate remover, then in the Eheim I was going to use their own Ehfimech, Ehfisbstrate and perhaps a sponge as well.
I was hoping the Eheim would have the power to draw through the head of the Juwel with the impeller removed. Has any one done this? All Help will be gratefully appreciated.
Sorry for some reason it won't let me attach a pic, I'm not getting the "browse box". But suffice to say my tank is heavelly planted.

The only downfall is when you have small top water fish like hatchets they tend to get sucked onto the holes at the top of the canister not to get killed or harmed but you have to get them off once in a while.
Juwel filters do the job for the tank made. And if you dont "treat" them right they will break and things will go wrong.

How to people get them out mine seems to be glued on. I have a juwel 180 vision with the compact h and it does my head in. Fish keep getting in some how even plec and everytime I take the sponge out crap goes everywhere. So im going to replace it with a Hagen Fluval Plus 2 as i am already running an eheim 2213 classic

so what the easiest way to get it our. Also if anyone wants to buy it they can have it cheap

First put the lid on the filter (obvius)
Second you have to put a filter floss on top of the other sponges (poly pads)
Third to clean them take the power head out and clean the sponges.
