Ok so my filter sucks, should I

Keep this filter and put another small external one on.

Or try get this one out and put a big external one on.

Bearing in mind, if i buy a filter i live in the UK.

Cheers

I have 2 Juwel tanks, and on one I have a FLuval 204 running alongside the standard Juwel filter, on the other, I have removed the Juwel filter and am using an Eheim Ecco 2235.
The Juwel filters are a bit of a pain really, and they take up a huge amount of tank space. If you can afford to do it, I would get rid of the Juwel filter and go with a good external, dependant on the tank size.

i prefer having external and dependant on your stock you may need a external unless ur water changing and cleaning the jewel all the time.

I went for a eheim tank purely because it came with a pro 2 external, it may of cost more than a juwel but with the juwel they don't come with 4 tubes and £150 worth of filtration so well worth the extra dosh.

 Whats wrong with your Juwel one?
Really struggles to keep the water clean, its always dirty. I do all the water changes etc.
I had to upgrade from my juwel heater cause that was crap too.
Not very impressed with the electrics at all.

i've never had a problem with any of the Juwel kit and I have to admit I sometimes leave water changes abit longer than I really should

It has always worked fine and the box is loved by my plecs...

You must live in the Outer Hebrides or somewhere for the heater not to be adequate.

With some Juwels i add an Ehiem filter in tandem, I find it works well.

I have had no problems with any Juwel tanks, I think the workmanship and quality is excellent. Do you have any large fish that produce more waste than the filter can cope with? :dunno:

EDIT: Spelling :*)

It was a 100W heater in a 125ltr tank.
No where near enough!
125ltr should be 150-200W#
100W is only for a 50-70ltr tank or summint.

I have ripped out the Juwel filters from the two Juwel tanks i own, i found them to be utter crap for anything but planted tanks with tiny fish (which is what they are designed for). If money isnt a issue then rip it out and stick a good sized external filter on the tank, you wont regret it and will see a difference in water clarity straight away.

I have discus and it works fine. No problems or death yet.

I ripped mine out, the tank as a hole I find very good, the filters in them are terrable. I had a khuli take residence in mine.

I fist replaced it with and flural exsternal, and it flooded my hall way, I now been banned from having an exsternal as much as I want one.

I can't remember the filters I using now, but I running 2, considering running another.

Make sure you regularly syphon the inside of the filter casing to remove gunk and crap that builds up in there or you could start to suffer from massive nitrate spikes which your Discus wont like.

Thanks for your advice. I will be changing 1 bucket of water per week.
Sorry for hogging your topic mate. :)

Getting a little alarmed.
I have a Rio 125 aquarium which has been set up for about 9 weeks.
Previously (over 20 yaers ago) I had framed tanks and undergravel filters.
So far I have nothing but praise for the Rio system. Everything is running well. I have never had such good plant growth and my 2 moonlight gouramies are loving the tips of the green leaves. The filter is quite easy to clean and the water is virtually crystal clear. No trouble with heating.
My alarm comes from the number of people saying that the centre bar can come loose causing the front to bow and that the heaters tend to fail in the first year with the thermostat sticking closed and so overheating.
Any reassurance on these 2 points would be very welcome.
