Filtration Time

Hi all, 'Newbie here'

I realise that there will be no definitive answer to this one as there are so many possible variables.

I used to keep tanks 20 (ish) years ago and have now decided to set up another. I have purchased a 220 litre tank and am presently filtering it with an under gravel system. Yeahh, I know its 'old hat' but it gets me going and I do plan to invest in an external canister system in the near future.

My question is how many hours of the 24 in a day is it advisable to have the filtration system operative. Is it the full 24 hours or is it possible to have it switched off for some of those hours.?

keep it on for the 24hrs,if not some of you beneficial bacteria will start to die off,leading to pollution in your tank

All filters must always be on, 24/7 unless you are cleaning it.
