So this is what I am thinking for my super pred tank.

1. LR in the tank, an overflow going to an algae scrubber, then flowing into a sump/refugium, then pumped through a fluidised sand bed filter and back up to the tank.

2. Again LR in tank, overflow down to sump, use algae scrubber as a bridge to another tank which will hold excess water(perhaps some extra LR with fun things in like clowns and nem with cleaner shrimp or use as food storage tank), pump into FSBF and back into tank.

Sounds like a great plan. I would love to set up a multistage system like this but to be effective you have to make it big enough and I just don't have the space where my tanks are set up to make it worthwhile.

As Barney said, 'sounds like a great plan', you also then get both your wishes, a pred and clowns with nem tank woo hoo.........

Any advice on option 1 or 2. How large for the excess water storage/small exhibit tank? Poll added

Sorry should have said either option would be great but two is good if you have the space.

Exactly how you set it up is going to depend mainly on 2 things. How much space you have and what your budget is :)

Do you have any of the equipment already (tanks, etc) and how much space do you have to play with?

No equipment but I am in nam the tanks cost virtually nothing compared to the UK. I will have a 7 foot tank, 1.5-2 foot wide inside the stand is what I have to work with no need for cupboards etc. under the tank.
