You can leave the Fluval u3 in there as an extra flow device. I have a fluval 305 external and the u3 on a 90L fluval tank and it works well

The one in the middle is combomba it grows really quickly! Nice plant though and the fish love swimming in and around it.

nah I would'nt say so, though it is my first external filter so I cant compare it with eheims etc However with the filter in the cabinet you definately dont notice it.
