Hi Guys and Gals.
First thank you for all the help you have given me so far.

I have started a new post about filtration so as not to hijack this thread with my questions.

New Fluval View+Fish Sucked Into The Intake=Sad 10 Year Old

This is my setup

The filter I am running is.
Biopro Aquarium External Canister 800L/ per hour.  It has 2 trays, both trays are full of media, 1 full of ceramic noodles the other full of those plastic balls with a coarse  foam in the middle.

I had to severely restrict the flow because the current was just too strong for the little guy. The flow rate is down to 60l/ per hour. What I now need is some advice on the best filter set up for my tank.  If need be I will go out and buy 1 or build 1.

Any ideas are most welcome.

Oh yes restricting the flow makes the pump noisy also.

Do not restrict filter flow on the intake side, it will cause the filter to break. Flow should only be adjusted on the output side of filters. pumps and powerheads.

Agreed, restricting filter flow can cause the filter motor to burn out quicker.

Adjusting flow using the valves / levers thats usually found on the filter itself is the best way of lowering or increasing filter flow to tank.

Bettas do not need strong flow as you already aware, so any small internal or hang on back filters would be perfectly fine, even a simple sponge filter with air pump will do the job.

These small filters or HOB are fairly cheap to get depending where you buy these from. Ebay or Craiglist usually have loads of these for sale to suit your budget. Shop around.

I have seen similar and have considered buying one of these myself but never got around to it.

Though I do not know the brands of these small externals so I cannot really comment if theyre any good for reliability and performance. ANd with these lph readings, may be still a little high flow, but you can add spray bars and baffles to help reduce flow to satisfactory levels.

Got to be worth a try I would have thought.

Ok I ordered that on Ebay when it gets here i have almost 2 pounds of bio home media that I will use to replace those ceramic noodles and carbon.

In my opinion you should have put the foam first in the intake before the other items so they don't get clogged up.
