Hi
Planning a new tank (60-70l) and I am unsure of what filtration tyoe to use really. I only have experience with the hang on back type of filter, which I have found really good for the small (30l) tank that I have it with.
I am not sure whether or not to use another filter like this with my new tank, or an internal like the eheim aquaball of biopower. These are both relatively compact for the tank size they fit, so I am not too worried about space lost in the tank. I plan to have a lot of fish in this tank, so good filtration is a must, but I also don't want a very strong current running through the tank, which is my worry with the internal.
The other concern is that the only hang on back types that are easily available in the UK are pretty cheap nameless models from ebay. I am aware that these are basically just plastic boxes with a small motor and impellor, but I worry about these ebay models using cheap parts adnd breaking down whil I'm out. Otherwise, the hang on back seems like a cheaper alternative, with just as much, probably more, probably more, space for media.
My third option is a DIY cannisetr filter, with a large tupperware and a submersible water pump with the relevant lines running in and out.
Anyway, anyone have any advice for me regarding this question?
