Well, the topic pretty much says it all. I've been wanting to get a crowntail betta, I already have a VT. I currently have a 5 gal, but I'm having problems w/keeping a steady temperature, I've tried a couple different heaters, but the temp still fluctuates a lot. So I thought if I got a 10 gal it would be a lot easier to keep. I figured I could get a divider, and heavily plant it (might even try real plants this time), and have 2 bettas :good: . So do you guys (and gals) think an undergravel filter would work for 2 bettas, 2 apple snails, and around 4 or so glass shrimp? I've never used an undergravel, but I though it would work well w/bettas since there is very little flow if you use an air pump instead of powerheads. Or is there another filter you could suggest? Thanks for your help, and damn MTS!

Uh, would probably work. They are really not the best filters and clog easily. It can be difficult and time consuming to vacuum up all the junk that collects under there. Your stock would be low so it might be OK.

Glass shrimp, I have heard, do not fare well with most bettas. The vast majority become lunch. I would like to try it myself but I'd feel bad if it got eaten.

I still use ugfs in some of my 10g tanks.. I don't use powerheads on them though, just air pumps.

Should be good for bettas, they shouldn't be too much for ugfs.

Doesn't really bother me if they become lunch, protein. And I don't mind vacuuming the gravel, I do it every week when I clean the tank now, snails are poo machines. But thanks for your concerns. :)

Or get a splitter valve and run two small box sponge filters in the tank :) would only cost around $10 afor media and the filter :)
