Hey guys,
Whilst I was in work today, my mum accidentally knocked the adapter plug on the wall, causing it to disconnect the power supply until I got home around 5 hours later.
I have a 200l tank with 2 large canister filters, I have just done a 30% water change and I plan on doing the same every day until I go on holiday in a week.
I am going to cut down on feeding to try to minimize any ammonia spiking.
Can anyone give me any more tips as I want to try and help balance the tank before I go on holiday.

It is a planted community tank with 5 ottos, a green phantom pleco, 2 Siamese algae eaters, an opaline gourami and 3 south american puffers if that helps at all.

You should be ok at only 5 hours outtage. Just do a water test or 2 and ensure low levels. But 5 hours isnt too much!

+1 :good:

Mine went off for in excess of 9 hours last summer..as long as there is no huge drops in temperature then 5 hours really isn't anything to worry about. But as was mentioned above, do some water tests for self-assurance.

Terry.

dont worry just plug it back in ( i assume you have by now anyway

OH HANG ON

when was the last time you gave the fiters a good clean?? are they likely to be full of muck?? collected at the bottom i mean.. if you think so would be better to empty the cannister and refill and prime ( tank water obviously)

this happened t me once and when i primed the filter all the muck came flowing out and more or less instantly killed a clown loach.. i know it was this as i had run the tank over filtered with 3 fish for a year :(

but if youre on top of your cleaning and you dont see any bits floating them im sure itll be fine

are these internal or external cannisters??? im lost now  if internal then no worries at all

Thanks for the advice, feel ease now haha. Yeah the temps didn't drop too much , the tank sits around 28° and it had dropped to 26.5°.
I cleaned out one of the canisters recently and the other(only set up around 2 months ago) is huge with tons of media in and no gunk came out when I plugged it all back in.
I 'hoover' the gravel at least once a week to keep waste down so the filters take a good while to get clogged up.
I'll test the water tomorrow after work and just carry on with the water changes and feed lightly till I go on holiday.
Thanks again!

ehh, I turn my filters of when Im sleeping (because my tanks in my bedroom, filters are loud), 5 hours is not much at all.

That's not good.........
What filter is it? My filters are very quiet. I'm sure there's a filter out there that is quiet enough for you. My tank is also in my bedroom.
