we brought some mollies yesterday and this morning have another 20 .we have a fluval 3 filter and just wondered if its allright on or will it suck the babies up.thankyou
it will suck in some fry but you can put a bit of fillter media over the intake. but it will decrese the turn over rate and you will need to clean the media quite often
Welcome to the forum Mell.
A filter shaped like that is hard to cover to prevent fry being sucked up. I have a 4+ in one of my goodeid tanks but the fry are almost 2 cm long so they are not threatened by it. My best suggestion would be maybe the end of a panty hose or a woman's sheer nylon sock to cover that large area and prevent fry hazards. I use mostly canisters and sponge filters in fry tanks. A canister , or even a HOB filter inlet can be covered by cutting a slit in the end of a filter sponge and just slipping it over the end of the inlet like this.
when I kept guppys I didnt really think about the filter but I opened the filter to give it a bit of a clean only to discover about 20-30 pairs of eyes....
Had to open it every other day until I soldmy guppys as thats usually where I would find them
