So i have just bought a 6 x 2 x 2 fish tank and it came with a sump which is not that big. The tank has two holes made for the sump in..
So i was thinking of getting two 80L storage boxes like the one below

I was thinking of filling the 2 storage boxes with k1 filter media. And then having the  plumbing going from the tank into the two storage boxes. The storage boxes would be higher than the sump. Then the two storage boxed would have plumbing into the sump then i would have a pump in the sump pushing the water back up.

Im just wondering if its over kill ? Can you filter the water to much ?? Can you ever have to much filter media ??

If the boxes are not food safe don't use them. They leach the plastic into the water and kill anything thats related to the water inside of it. Not worth the risk.

I suggest getting a cheap clearseal tank instead you know wont have any risks on it.

Really Useful Boxes are safe and extremely sturdy. However for the prices of these, you could probably get a 90L second hand for less.

If they are made out of Polypropylene they will be safe to use, most of those type of containers are afaik

Thanks i will take a look and see what they are made from. I had one a few months back and was doing water changes with it and filling it up with water and adding fresh water into my tank with it.
