filtered in what way?

hi tizer ty for the reply
the filter is fixed to main water system but removes chlorine and other chemicals added i belives its got a carbon cartridge in the filter

i will need to ask hubby tonite about it it was from b&q

i only keep livebeares mollys plattys guppies hope this helps

just been told its a charcoal filter so removes mainly chlorine

Nothing stopping you from using it in the tank but i think you would find that using it for water changes could result in you getting through more of the cartridges with the additional water going through it. Also since these are not really built specifically for keeping fish i personally would still add dechlorinator, which really kinda defeats the object of even using it. I'd just go with normal tap water, from an outside tap (or a tap before it hits the filter) and carry on as you are. If you really want to soften the water to keep other fish, then the more advanced filters would be needed i believe. Such as those from RO-MAN. I'm not all up on that as i've never filtered my water, but i have spent some time looking into it, i'm sure others will chip in with info. Sorry i cant help more.

ty for that tizer

maybe i should stick to the normal tap water

was just an idea and wanted other members feedback

Alot of dechlorinator also removes heavy metals and chloramine (which can potentially be dangerous to the aquariums inhabitents). I don't think the filter you've got attatch to the mains would remove them. For the sake of a few ££'s (s), i would still add dechlorinator :good:

thanks for the advice

i will be sticking with normal tap water & usual water treatments

my fish seem to be thriving anyway
got up this morning to lots of fry hanging near top of tank
