really, I didn't know you could just do that. The fish store was saying i needed a wet dry.

LFS tend to tell you that because it means more money in the till. I have 3 SW tanks, no filters on any of them.

Would having and AC300 harm it? That is what is currently on my 30g

Nope, you could drop some chemi-pure or phosban in there to help with phosphates. Other than that, it would be a great way to increase flow and keep the surface agitated.
