I've been looking at a Filstar XP canister filter. Do they work good? Are they quiet?

Would a filtert that puts out more GPH benefit my aquarium? Like this

I wasd gonna run it simultaneously with my already existing water filter.

From what i have learned and heard is the more gph the more possibilty for stocking, while some fish just wont fit in some tanks but with more gallons pumping through your filter the more amonia can be removed depending on your benificail bacteria culture, and therefore more fish can be put into a tank than that of a tank of similar size with a filter that pump less gph, now please dont get me wrong just because your filter is a higher gph doesn't mean that some fish can go into smaller tanks... ect a 15gal tank running an aquaclear 110 (pump desighed for 60 - 110 gal) wont fit a pair of oscars. i might be wrong but thats why many lfs can have tanks that are severly overstocked if you use the inch/gal. because they are pumping a much higher amount of water..

The other thing to think about is the amount of room in the filter for biological filteration, the more room and surface area for bacteria to grow the more amonia and nitrates can be removed per hour, which is the real reason we put filters in our tanks isnt it, other than to aerate and create water movement

but im waiting to be corrected now cause i usually have made a mistake somewhere in my posts..

Pick the biggest filter capacity you can afford. Making sure, you are not stuck with having to buy alternative media from the manufacturer. dumping the carbon will free even more space for media. a bigger pump will also allow a good side spray bar for oxygenation. set the filter up as it comes, or as recommended. put both filters to work. this will take some time. meanwhile do some research on alternative media for your filter, reading threads can be a good thing. ask a few questions, if people are using different things try to find out why. this will help you decide if changes are needed! if so do them bit by bit.
