Filter Trouble Quick!

My filter in my 20g is on its way out, could I put a uncycled filter alongside and let it cycle then eventually take out the old one?

Yes and no.

Your theory is right, but if the bad filter packs up before your new one can handle the full bioload (6-8 weeks, ish) you in for it

Personally, if its going to give up the ghost, i would put all the mature media in the new, and run the buggered as a back-up, if at all.

Thanks I still have to take the chance since its still running but really slowly and just drizzling, no matter how many times I take it apart and clean it, it wont work.

Just put the old media into any new filter and you're fine. No need to run the old filter at all once the media has been moved.

If its running that slow you may starve the bactria of oxygen which will kill them best of change while you can
