Filter Stopped Working!

Hi, my filters stopped working and all of my tiger barbs are gasping for air, how do i get my filter to work again?!

Suggest you add the make and model of the filter and what has happened (flow stopped, leakage etc).

The flow has stopped and i don't know the make, it's the standard one which comes with the aquastart500

can you take it apart clean the filter pads, check that there is nothing jamming the impeller.
after doing this and it does not work, give it a light tap, just to make sure its truelly broken.

It's an aqua one filter by the way, i can feel the tiniest bit of flow coming out, but not as stron as normal. Even my bristlenose are coming up to the surface.

when was the last time you cleaned it?

do you have an pumps or other filters that could create water movement, because this seems to be your main problem, your fish need the exchange of gases and this is not happening quick enough,

no I have nothing, my dad is coming back in an hour, then we are going to lfs to buy another filter.

take a jug and remove some water and pour it back in a few times to aerate the water...

Yep the tiger barbs are swimming around now and the cories are staying on the floor. Thanks for the help guys!
