Just wondering if anyone can give me a rundown on how they would fill an ehiem classic for use in a planted tank. At the minute I have removed the carbon filter pad.

What I have at the minute is

Plenty of filter floss
A white floss sponge thing
A blue sponge
Some ceramic tube things
Some white rock stuff ( I was told it worked like the ceramics)
Gravel ( just to fill up space really)

Can someone tell me what else I should add and if there is anything I should remove to make it plant friendly.

My 2211 has 4 layers of coarse sponge, then one fine sponge on top. I cant see the point with all the other stuff, expensive and needs replacing regularly.

Not really- the ceramic rings and 'white rock stuff' will last for ever, and just needs a rinse out in tank water during a filter clean. Wouldn't bother with gravel though-use the white rock stuff-usually there's too much in the box anyway.

My filter did not come with any media as I bought it cheaper and just used what I had lying around the house, so I don't have anything else to use in the space until my shop gets some in. Didn't seem right just leaving a space.

I was of the understanding that over time the ceramic rings/disks get clogged and so should be change periodically to maintain the surface area for bacteria?
