I have seen replacement carbon pads on E Bay from a company called finest filtration for half the price has anyone used them are they ok

Thanks in advance

Are you wanting them for full time use, or just for removing medication? If it's for full time, you don't actually need to use carbon full time. Just buy a length of filter wool/filter floss from a roll, use a pad to cut the wool/floss to the right shape, and use that instead.

As Essjay has mentioned, carbon is only need to remove chemicals from water. You don't need it in most normal aquariums.

You can use sponges instead of the carbon or filter floss and the sponges last longer.

I was following Fluval instructions change the carbon pads every couple of weeks

Manufacturers are feeding you misinformation so you keep buying products from them. They tell you to replace pads, carbon and anything else so you keep buying more and more things. If they just told you to put a sponge in they wouldn't make any more money off you.
