Hi

I'm spending the weekend setting up my tank, which is 118ltrs, and I've got a Penn-Plax Cascade 700 external filter. As its got flow control valves I'm wondering how open they need to be.

I'm using a spray bar and need to know how much impact (cant think of a better way to put it) the jets need to make on the surface. On full it could be called jucuzzi mode

I've turned it down and I can see plant movement and small bubbles but I'm not sure if its right. Is there a rule of thumb or this a how long is a piece of string question?

Cheers

Steve

Hi steve - and welcome if you haven't done it in newbies

Not familiar with that filter....- but as a rough guide you want to be looking at 4 x tank volume/hour for planted tanks - but also depends on the fish you are/want to keep.

Spray bars can be noisey and don't have to be above the water - you can have them under and angled up towards the surface to minimise turbulance...
