I have x2 pumps firing onto my live rock and it's giving off loads of little bubbles, is this ok or should i move my pumps so they dont fire onto my live rock or even slow my pumps down so there not as powerful?

Any ideas or is this ok?

Cheers

That all depends....

how old is your tank and what's in it?
what size pumps?
what size tank?

more info please. SH

Sounds like you may be creating a vortex and sucking air into the intake of the pumps. You may try to lower the pumps to solve the problem. More info could narrow down the cause if this isn't it.

Hi all,

It was actually me that posted this as my nephew was logged in.

Anyway... Because the pumps (each side) of the tanks are so close to the live rock as the water fires from the pumps onto the live rock the bubbles are then going up off the rock to the top of the tank....

If that makes sense? I guess it's normaly just wondering if I should turn them down or move the pumps so it doesn't fire straight onto the live rock?

The tank is just over 3 foot.

Is there any way you can post a pic of the setup?

Here you go mate, you can see the water after its fired from the pump hitting the live rock and then going upto the surface.

Also my clown seems very nervous and kidna swims funny at the back of the tank, hoovers behind the live rock, is this normaly for a new clown etc?

Ok it looks like you have a venturi on that pump. Just take off the little air line and it will no longer be able to suck air into the venturi. The best place for your powerhead to hit is in the live rock as it deflects the pinpoint stream and also effeciently uses the rock as filtration.

To me it looks like its doing it as the pump is pretty powerful, when it fires from the end of the pump you see the bubbles fly out.

Should i turn it down so you cant see it fly out the pump?

Remove it.. There is no need for a venturi on a re circulating powerhead. Really the only placed venturi's are common is in protein skimmers. Air bubbles in your display tank can harm corals later down the line so just take it off :)

Do you mean that little clear tube that hangs outside the tank??

I "think" although I might be wrong that if i take that off the pump goes rather powerful and noisy.. (might be wrong though)

I have 2 of these pumps at each end. Should the pump just give off a nice flow then nothing powerful?

Well, noisy is bad, but flowrate is good, even if it does seem a little extreme, you want water moving around a lot in a marine tank to mimic a natural environment. I can say for sure from my diving experience that reefs have plenty of current around them, so your livestock can probably handle the flowrate :)

Maybe its best then if i leave it as it is but without it pumping straight onto the live rock.

No, the problem is the venturi tube that runs into the powerhead, this is causing the bubbles to appear. Just take that off and your tank will be fine. You actually WANT the flow to go into the LR to ensure there are no deadspots.
