Let me guess the internal is a Fluval ? ;)

Just take the sponges from the internal filter and stuff them into the new external filter. But make sure you have your external set up and understand how to operate it before doing so - you don't want to fiddle for hours (I did when I first set up my first external!) and have your new bacteria start to die off.

hi can anyone recommened a good external for a 190ltr tank? nice and easy to use? cheap etc?
thanks,
(cant get one today as the lfs is shut on mondays!!)
i'll get one tommorow though.
thanks x x

Hello,

After asking people on this site and other LFS, the eheim filters seem to come out tops..

See the latter part of This thread

I went for Eheim 2026 Professional II - with media for £99.95.. ... which was quite a good bargain.. you can order online or via the phone..

havent set it up yet, but it arrived today...

Cheers

Hi Bex

Just happened to me water pouring everywhere I have the Fluval 3+. I take it by reading this thread this is a common occurance, I'm thinking of changing aswell.

How much would a external filter cost for a 22g tank?

£49 for an Eheim 2213 - excellent external filter

Eheim is not the only filter on the market. In fact a good number of people don't necessarily agree that they are the best on the market. Go to the equipment section and do some surfing. Canister filters are nice for little or no noise but you pay the price for that. The hob's do a good job and are easy to maintain and are less expensive. As a rule of thumb, with all the intrinsic falacies of a rule of thumb, the external filters should have a 10x flow rate relative to the tank volume. For a canister the rule of thumb would be 5x the tank volume. i believe that either a better than an internal filter. They are a pain in the butt to clean and did you buy a tank to house fish or plumbing?
Cheers;

We don't really get hob filters in the UK and you really have to shop around for them. They are not well supported at all I'm afraid. So what there is in terms of the best available, it's Eheim without a doubt.

Just bought the Eheim 2026 external for my 180L Juwel - it's fantastic, very very quiet (don't know it's on), output flow is brilliant (& adjustable), changes are SO much easier!!!
