Filter Problems

Hi There

Hope you can help me, my Stingray 15 filter has packed in tonight on my 60L tank. Obviously too late in the day to get a new one, anything I need to do until I can get a new filter tomorrow?

How do I make sure I do not lose the good bacteria in my filter media, and what is the best way to get the new filter upto speed?

Keep the media damp, you can just float it in some tank water and it should be fine. If you get the exact same filter just put your old media into it and you will be good to go, if not, use your new filters media but put as much of the old media as you can into the filter for a while to seed the new media.

Don't get the same filter! A few of us have had probs with it. I was lucky, mine packed in before I started cycling.

As Bretzz says and I agree with twinklecaz, I would also recommend the fluval filters

I can recommend the U series Fluvals too.

Lovely filters; very easy to maintain.

There should be plenty of space to put your old media in a new one as the Stingrays are pretty small. Chop it up if you need to, it won't do it any harm.

Thanks all. Unfortunately, we were put on a 4 day week in work last week, so funds are a bit tight. Shops I went in wanted £35 for the fluval, managed to find a Stingray 15 for £11 in a local shop, so that won the day. Got it in now with the old filter media, and the fishies seem happy lol.

Just added my fish to my sig. Do you think this ok for my tanksize, or I am a bit overstocked? Not had any water issues with these.

The common plec is a problem they grow massive, maybe a pitbull or bristle nose plec would be great.

the other fish are fine you should up the danios to min 6 as they like to be in groups and also the minoes

Thanks for replying. Yup, Peter (as my girlfriend christened him, Peter The Plec lol) has grown a hell of a lot already in about 2 1/2 months. Have got someone to take him when he gets too big though.

Would another 3 Zebras or 4 Minnows not be too much for the tank?
