Hi

I'm currently fish-in-cycling, and it's been roughly about 4 weeks. I've been told that my existing filter isn't strong enough for my 2x young Blackmoores (in 13.5 gallon tank), so I want to put another filter in my tank. What are the best places in my tank to put both filters? Or, does it not matter? Also, given the fact that i'm still cycling my tank - should I wait before putting another filter in?

Sorry for all the questions!!

Regards

p.s existing filter = 300lph & additional filter to put in = 300lph

Hi

Forgot to mention that both are internal filters!!!!

I have had mine in the back corners of my tank, both pointing towards the middle of the tank. I dont think it does as well as i thought it would though so im moving them both to the back center of the tank and having a reshuffle.

You should be looking for positions that will give the best circulation pattern. Avoid a set up that has low flow areas in the tank and focus on good circulation.
I really hate to say it but any amount of filtration in such a small tank with 2 goldfish will end up not being enough. Before the fish get too big, you will need a much larger tank for their sake.

a 300lph filter in a 60litre tank should be ok for a couple of goldies. Obviously as stated above the tank might be a bit small when they are full grown but black moors only get to about 6 inches max (body length) and it takes a few years.
The way to tell if the filter is big enough is to see how often you need to clean it. You want to clean the filter about once a month. If it needs cleaning more often than that you need more filtration. If the filter can go for 6 months without needing a clean it is fine. But still clean it once a month anyway.

It won't make any difference to the cycling process if you add another filter now or later. The bacteria will continue to develop in the current filter and over a month or so, more bacteria will colonise the new filter. The old filter will keep the water clean while this happens.

Some filters can get adaptors (second filter cases) and have more than one filter sponge on the same puump. Maybe see if you can add to your existing filter.
