Hello All ;

Firstly, many thanks to all of you who replied to my query regarding stocking my impending 180 gallon tank . Advice was very helpful and appreciated .

My query this time is.....What is the best filter for the above tank !! I just want to filter this tank properly and I know there are many options available so, at present , I'm leaning toward an external canister - the Eheim Pro 3 . Can anyone tell me if this filter on it's own is enough to properly filter the tank ? Or would I require an additional filter ?

Kind regards to all....

Mj

Generally you are aiming for 5 times tank turnover per hour. So in your case that's 900 gallons per hour if your tank is actually as big as that. If it is a 180 gallon tank then you are probably looking at stocking some pretty big fish. This is not something I'm familiar with and would not want to advise you wrongly. You need to speak to some other big tank owners to find out what filtration they would recommend as big tanks are a fairly exclusive club and generic rules don't apply. I would go to one of the forums on TFF that covers the fish you intend to stock, you are more likely to find someone with the info. you need there.

Cheers JonseyUK .

The tank is listed as 180 US gallon but in Europe when converted it's approx 120 - 140 gallons , or so I'm informed . The measurements of the tank are ( 60 x 24 x 30 ) , so it's a good size and it'll be a community tank set up - Dollars / Cory's / Rasbora's and Tetras and maybe some Rainbows .

Thanks again!!

I presume those measurements are in inches?

In which case, I would highly recommend the Fluval FX5. Expensive at around £150-£175 but well worth the money.
