Hi all, I was wondering if this will be alrifgt. I have a aqua clear power filter on my 20 gal tank. Its FW now Im switching to SW. I have a sponge in the filter + bio balls ., little hard balls with a good surface area for bacteria. I will be getting cured LR + crushed coral from a local hobbiest. Will I have a problem with nitrates because my filter medium will cause them to rise ? I squezze or clean them once a week.. Thanks--
Once your live rock is in and the tank has cycled, you don't need actually need a filter - only powerheads to provide good water flow around the rocks for the bacteria to flourish. The live rock becomes the filtration media for the aquarium.
