Filter Media For Small Filters

My current filter has small ceramic chips for bio filtration and filter sponge for mechanical filtration. It originally came with a cartridge but I couldn't find new ones anywhere to replace it.

I question the reliability of my filter so I've been thinking of getting a new filter like the Tetra whisper or Aqueon quiet flow. These filters come with cartridges and there's no space for ceramic chips so what happens when you need to change the cartridge?

You must be able to get hold of replacement cartridges somewhere. However, unless the cartridges are physically falling apart, you don't need to replace them.

Thanks CezzaXV. With the cartridges I won't need the ceramic chips anymore will I?
