During my last w/c I was horrified to discover that the filter bag in my filter has seemed to have turned to mush and is deteriorating.

I was not expecting this...I thought the bag was made of some type of plastic polymer.

I am not to concerned about the bacteria because the bag is filled with sponges and filter floss.
But does anyone know why this happened?
And
Should I keep the bag that is mush and put it in the new filter bag or discard it?

Discard the old bag and just use a new one. Water is a universal solvent, given time it will break down anything.

Thanks.
Just surprised because its only been just over a month. Last one I had lasted 4 months with no sign of breaking down. Only reason I changed because I upgraded filters. My original one still in with sponge's.
