1) i have a fluval 3 internal filter and it says not to use the polyester pads and the carbon pads togerther. but gives no reason why not to. does anyone know why not ? if it is a "NoNo", what about using two filters, one with polyester pads in it and the other with carbon pads ???

2) lighting with algae. Why does algae multiply alot faster with sunlight than with lightbulbs ? is it actually the UV that does it ?

only know the answer to the second question,
algae grows faster in sun light because it is getting food, the more light its getting the more food, and algae wont get overfed on sunlight so it uses as much as posable to make more of it (growing) if your tank is in direct sunlight then algae wil over run it with out regular matinance.
hope this helps
shang hi

I used to use a Fluval 4 Plus internal and it said the gap inbetween the two main sponges could be filled with either a fine filter sponge or a carbon sponge. No reason you can't use the carbon one, but unless there's something in the tank you want to take out with the carbon sponge, I'd use the fine one between the main two.
