Filter Intake Keeps Getting Clogged

The intake on my 10 gallon tank keeps getting clogged, resulting in a weak filter flow. I can clean it, but it gets clogged again within a few days. It never used to do this. Is there anything I should be doing?

What is it clogged with? What fish are in the tank and have you added any more recently? Also, where is it positioned in the tank? If its close to plants say and the leaves keep getting trapped on it then it might be worth relocating it.

However, if the filter is getting blocked regularly it could suggest its not up to the job of keeping your tank clean. What size/rating is it?

Its clogged with these weird white stringy things, I can try to get a picture if you want. Its a 10 gallon tank with just one crowntail betta. Its rated for 10 gallons.

Picture might help. White stringy things are often breaking down leaves, but could be algae.
