Howdy hey, I just set up a decent sized betta tank on my dresser and am thinking a small filter in there would be a good option.

I am opposed to air powered filters as I have found smaller electric filters and have always had trouble with air powered filters, they're too noisy IMO.

Anyway, I've narrowed my selection down to four different filters, the smallest internal and HOB filters available from Aquaone and Aquarworld and want to know if they will make too much current for my soon to be betta. The tank holds around 12-13 litres and the smallest filters all run at a rate of 150 LPH, this makes me think the HOB filters will create too much surface ripple for the little guy, and the Aquaone internal has no spray bar option.

So I'm currently leaning towards a 150L Aquarworld internal filter with the spray bar on it (perhaps even angled towards the wall of the tank) would this be suitable? Here is some information on the filter itself which only contain a small sponge:

We sell these filters at my work and I've had good results with them before, they're cheap and efficient.

Here is a picture of the tank I plan to house him in :) Any other suggestions for decoration would be good to :) I don't plan to use a heater as it's always hot down here and I've kept them successfully in unheated bowls before.

Sorry about the cloudy water, the gravel is brand new :p

I shouldnt worry about a filter, needs a lid, and the mirror behind the tank might stress him out a bit. Cant wait to see photos of him !

I have the same sort of filter in my betta tank, i have the spray bar angled towards the wall of the tank and my betta actually enjoys playing in the current.
When he wants to build a bubble nest he does it at the other end of the tank where there is no current, so he's obviously happy with this set up.

Obviously the need for a lid has already been mentioned but as for the mirror you could hide this from his point of view by putting some long plants at the back of the tank, my betta enjoys hiding in long plants so i'm sure yours will too.

It looks like a good set up to me, congrats on the new betta. :)

It does have a lid :) just doesn't show up to well, I also have black contact over the back so I avoided that :p

Thanks Gina, that sounds like about what I thought would happen :D I get them fairly cheap from work so even if he doesn't approve I'm sure it won't kill me the few dollars I lose :p I do have another betta who my mother keeps in a smallish glass to my disapproval so I'll have to get another small tank soon for him as well, maybe even build a divided tank.
