This evening I moved my Betta and 3 cory's from a 25 litre to a 65 litre tank, which is fully cycled. The filter on the smaller tank was fine, not too much flow, but this tank has a stingray 15 filter and it seems way to powerful now it's just him and the few corys in there, they were all just jamming themselves into a corner.

I've turned the filter off for now, which I realise is not ideal, but will get something tomorrow. A few posts I've read have suggested the air pump with a sponge, do I just need to buy the pump, some hosing and a filter sponge to pop on the end, or is it worth getting a filter that has an adjustable flow, I just worry that even on the lowest setting it will be too much for Boris.

I would like to add a few albino cory's to the set up so want to make sure I have a filter that will cope with all of them.

Many thanks

Some people use a part of a soda bottle to divert the flow...try that...that way you dont have a mini cycle when you try to switch the filters.

We've found sponge filters to be the best to use with Bettas. In fact Modaz from here sells them in his shop (DPFishways) and isn't a million miles from you in Bournemouth :good:

He's on Christchurch Road and he's got lots of Bettas too :hyper:

I wonder if you'll come back with more than a filter :hey:

For the time being, to avoid turning the filter off, why dont you direct the outlet against the tank wall to stop the current.

Thanks Netty, ooh, could be dangerous going there, fortunately I don't have a spare tank at the moment as I've just sold the little 30 litre he was in! But I've been looking into some females for my community tank!

I did try to turn the flow against the glass but it still seemed to really blow him and the corys round the tank. So he has no filter at the moment, so I've done a 25% water change today and all the water parameters are fine, so I'll keep doing that til I sort something.

He loves being in the bigger tank and he never built any bubble nests before, and he has already built one today!!! So am glad I moved him now.

No probs and congrats on his first nest :good: That's the problem with alot of filters........they blast them all over the place and they can't do what comes naturally. He's obviously alot happier where he is now!!!!

I'm sure Daz has females too so be warned.....it will be hard to leave without any and not having a tank hasn't stopped us in the past. We've just bought one at the same time lol

Noooo, but from seeing everyone one here it seems a common occurence!!!!!

By the way the fish on your website are stunning!

Thank you :good:

We're hoping to have some of our babies on the stock page by the end of the week if we can get some decent pics of them.

They are very addictive and I can't imagine not having them in virtually every room lol
