Ok so my fish tanks have sparked interest in my GF. She now want to get a 35g hexagon tank :S I know hexagon tanks are not practicable, but she is more into the aesthetics of the tank. So my question is what is the best reasonably priced filter for a hex tank? Her bio load will not be huge as she only plans on putting a couple mollies and guppies in the tank. I was thinking maybe a regular quietflow 30 but also have a sponge filter since the tank is so deep. What do you experts think?

Thanks!

I am not a fan of aqueon quiet flows as they do a poor job in biological and mechanical filtration in comparison to its competitors. Once you throw away the cartridge on a monthly basis your remove such a large amount of beneficial bacteria colonized on that surface area. I think if you want a power filter aquaclear is the way to go. The added expense will save you money in the long run as well as perform a far better job. You can rinse its sponge in a bit of aquarium water you take away from the aquarium to do a proper cleaning to the sponge. Also aquaclear can be customized to your liking. In terms of your concern to the oxygen issue i say add adequate flow with a powerhead if necessary since oxygen is distributed through water flow. Considering the majority of oxygen is found at the top 10% of the aquarium. Hope this has helped! :D

Thanks! What kind of cycling rate would you recommend if she got an aquaclear? 200 gph?
