What's a nice filter for a 29 gallon? I have a Aquaclear 200 at the moment. It keeps breaking down in the middle of the night. Grrr. Is there a filter where I can transfer the filter media so it's the same size?

How are you killing an ac 200? I have several of these running, I pound the living s... out of them in a breeding setup. They get no mercy & run for years. The only way I can really see tearing one up is to suck up sand if using sand for a substrate.

I am using sand. Maybe it was the intake tube clogging up. But this has happenned many times. I wake up to see my filter dry and not running. The bacteria could have been dry for 10 minutes, or for 7 hours. :(

Pull the impeller out & give it a good clean. Pull all media out of the filter, & keep it wet with tank water. Clean out the intake tube & case with a good blast of tap water. This should get any sand out.

Get a sponge intake prefilter to cover the intake. This will keep sand out. If you have a spare ac 200 sponge, poke a hole in it & slide it over the intake. I have ac 200's on my 29's, and use the sponge to keep young angel fry from being sucked up.

Well, there is a brand-new intake tube in there right now. And, I did give it a really good wash about a week ago. It was probably just the intake tube, and I jumped to conclusions.
