had a few workmen round doing up the kitchen they had a large roll of foam type stuff that was for the kitchen hob/cooker hood they left a large roll of it and i was thinking would this be ok to cut to size and use in a juwel filter for the white pad or any1 got a link to buy a cheap roll of white filter floss

I wouldn't; a lot of these building type materials have flame retardants added or sprayed onto them which would kill your fish.

There are loads of different ones on eBay; search for 'aquarium filter floss'.
