Filter Choice

 The filter (canister) itself doesnt need IN MY EXPERIENCE as much maintenance on it.

However if you want my opinion on the TT spraybar, its pants, I gave up with it and took it off and just used the the pipes to create the flow.

what did you think was pants about it? is the ehiem easy open up and everything? im not saying this in an argumentative way just for is i buy another :)

Because the flow out the spraybar wasnt particularly good, I found it better to use it without it. The end cap on the TT used to come off all the time, easy enough to fix I guess, but I preferred the current it creates better without the bar attached. Whereas the flow from the eheim is really strong.

what sized tank you got? with mine i have to lower the flow rate as it just disturbs half of my tank, 4ft 240L

hey i was in the same boat wondering what to get in the end i went with the ex 1200 because it good value and easy to maintain. ive got it on a 240 l with the juwel internal as well which keeps breaking ive had it for some months now and it works great no problems and i love how simple it is to open it up and clean and its also easy to prime with a push button. this is the first external ive had so im only telling you what i know about the ex1200. also kaivalagl can you tell me about your external heater ive not came across them before except the ones that are built into the filter cheers :)

They fit on the one of the hoses, between the filter and the tank inlet, and heat the water as it passes through.

 they are often pretty noisy to start with, they do go almost silent, once all the trapped air is out, sometimes it takes a couple of weeks, others go silent almost instantly. I now have 5 eheims running, the most recent went silent within hours, some have taken weeks, just depends on how much air was expelled when first primed I guess.

i think it has got quieter lol. setting it up though was a challenge. i had to use my syphon to pump the water round to get it to the filter but i got there in the end though lol
