i have a friend who has a 65l tank, he has a small internal filter and an undergravel one and would like to ditch the ugf and go with just one internal one, how would you do this? hes asked me but when i did it with mine i just emptied whole tank because i had a larger tank to put my fish in, he hasnt. is it possible to put fish in a bucket whilst he takes out the ugf then add the internal and let the tank settle then just put the fish back? or would this lead to unsafe water?

any help would be mush appreciated, thanks Nick

yeah just what you said, net the fish, get em in a bucket of tankwater (with heater and airstone if you expect them to be there for a while) strip down the tank, take out the UGF and change things around. fill it with water, let it settle, make sure she still uses the existing internal filter or at least the media from it. test the water to make sure everythings ok, put the fish back in.
