My Fluval 405 has given up on life and I will not be able to get another one until the morning. Will the filter media & fish be okay over night?

It's a 55 gallon, fairly stocked - & I have turned the Co2 off for now.

Any help much appreciated.

If you want to get some flow going through it occasionally you could disconnect the return and syphon some water through the filter into a bucket, then put it back in the tank. Should keep the bacteria fed if you do it every so often. Would give you a rough night, but peace of mind.

I suspect that the bacteria will be OK for a period of a few hours overnight in general though. Lots of people run an airpump if you've got one to keep some flow going.

you should be ok for 12, or more, hours.

you say "given up on life", how so?
it may still be salvageable.

Thanks for your responses.

This morning I bought a new FLuval 405, switched the top sections around & off we go, another three or so years until I expect to buy another one.

The motor had gone, when I turned the filter on it made an awful noise & the top of the filter heated up enormously - this happened to my old Fluval 304 (4 years ago).

I now have a Fluval 405 box full of everything brand new bar the motor, ah well, at least I have fresh media for whenver I need it!

ti may be worth looking at a new impeller, and/or shaft. if nothing else, I'll bet, you could then sell your old filter on. because thats what your problem sounds like.
AN1M has a good point too.

As standard, I am a few weeks past the gaurantee expiry date. Thanks for all your comments.

their is a diy section on here for filters. haven't really had a look at it but maybe making one for these little dramas life throws at us might be an idea. cant see how they'd be as good as ones you could buy but in three years time i bet you wish you paid more attention to this post lol
