It's an eheim 2217.

I posted in hardware but this is more of an emergency since until I get this working I don't have enough filtration. My second filter is an aquaclear 200 on a 75 gallon so I don't know how long it can keep up with the bioload.

I would buy another one tomorrow...

Or look see if the hose is clogged with something

Try popping out the impeller, see if anything is stuck around the shaft. I've had the more fiberous parts of veggies get wrapped around impellers & shafts a few times.

Tried taking out the impeller. I couldn't get at it by the way it's designed it looks like. I was able to take out a thin ceramic rod that I cleaned and put back in. It didn't help. :/

I somehow managed to get my fingers inside the filter and push the propeller hard and it got whatever was stuck in it out. I was ready to toss the thing because it stopped working randomly one day.

Yoou may try the hoses (is it canister?) they might ne clogged before you tear it apart...

Thanks for the tips. I'll try cleaning the impellor. The hoses are fine.

Fixed the filter. Thanks for all the replies people.

The problem was with the media. The fine filter pad that came with it (it was used when I got it a month ago) was old and didn't let much water through. I replaced the filter pad with a coarse one to allow more water through.

I did clean the impeller too, so now I know how to do that should the need arise.

Thank you very much for all the replies!

i know the problem is sorted now but for possible solution for future reference (should you be as unfortunate again :/ ) would be to simply do a large water change, to significatly reduce down your nitrates, ammonia etc and introduce clean water, giving you time to replace your filter.

yes, and do monthly impeller cleanings... and change media monthly also

I have been doing daily water changes to keep the excess organics down, but thanks Bald Ranger as that's good advice for anyone.

The monthly impeller cleanings are good advice too. I wouldn't reccomend changing the media as the media is where most of the bacteria culture lives. You would be constantly cycling. The media for an eheim 2217 costs around $120 to replace anyway.
