Filter Bacteria,

I was wondering how fragile filter bacteria is,i mean when i clean my filters i usally have to remove the bio balls or sponges completly out the water for like ten secs,does this damage the bac?,should the media always be submerged,i never get any spikes so must be ok,

You need not worry. The bacteria will easily last 10 seconds, the full colony could probably last a week or so still damp but out of the water.
