was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for filters to use in a ten gal. hexagonal tank? was looking at this one. would this be sufficient? also looking for any helpful suggestions on type of fish that would occupy the different levels of the tank once i get i cycled and ready to go.

depends what your keeping for top layers, i would try gouramis.
And abuot the filter i think it would work fine, ihave a elite stingray 5 running on my 2 gal hex

Why not consider an external? there's barely enough place in a 10g as is... Maybe an aquaclear or a mini-biowheel...

Yeah I would suggest an external power filter. They work great and save space inside your aquarium!
Bio-wheels work great to, in helping to keep your tank cycled.

Aquaclear makes a good series of external power filters. Takes up less space in the actual tank. I wouldn't get the smallest though, get the one that's rated one up. I think it's the Aquaclear 30 rather than the Aquaclear 20. If you have it at maximum flow, you won't be over-filtering, but if you have to reduce the current for any reason, you won't be underfiltering. They are also pretty affordable.
