ok so ive had my new betta Bubbuh in this little bowl filled with a plant from my realy tank and filled with water from my other tank, so i dont think my issue has to do with cycling

today i looked in the bowl and there is a greenish film on the top of the tank, the bettas acting fine, and there is no filter or heater in the tank,

well i skimmed it off

btw, ive had some plastic wrap with holes ovr the tank because i have a little crab that was atempting to climb out, but once he relized u cant climb up rounded glass, he gave up

what should i do?

Bacteria from a cycled fish tank will not help with a betta tank because the bacterium that is in a cycled tank is housed in ceramics, floss, or another type of material. I would use just fresh water with conditioner in it for your betta. The greenish film could be from air fresheners, bacteria, contaminants, or any other type of waste that flew it. Some people get clear film on the top of the tank but that is normal, that is either caused by protein from waste or protein from food. What kind of crab is this in your tank? If it is a freshwater sand hermit I would not recommend it with your betta because your betta could be bothered by it and the point that those crabs live on sandy beached, not in the water. Could you give us a picture?

More than likely its alage, your betta is probably either gets too much sunlight and or is over fed. You will also get a film on the water from slime mould/bacteria and dust or oil.

a small filter would help break the surface and keeps films from forming. Is the bowl in direct sunlight it may very well be algae.

ohh air freshner that could be it!!!
thanks!

the story about the crab is when i was buying a plant for my main tank , i herd something moving in the bag and there it was!, i put it in the bowl because i didnt really like the look of it in my main tank.
He sometimes will open his little claws when betta comes near, but Bubbuh just ignores him

i did a water change this morning, a bit of a bigger one then normal, with new water, i immidiatly put on my little cover and none of that stuff has come back

sometimes Bubbah just chills at the top of the tank hardly moving, how ever he'll come completly alive when i put the mirror around him
this is fine right?

oh and what are the advantages if i buy a little filter to the tank, i know i wont have to change the water as much but is there anything else i would get if i installed a mini filter?

thanks
