Hi
I have a figure 8 puffer and i am in the process of changing him to braskish water.
I understand you bumble bee godies are brakish and can go with my puffer but i cant get those from my LFS. I have found some on ebay that they will post but have never done that before and not sure it is safe for the fish.
Also is the anything else i can get instead of them?
Thanks Haylea

Figure-8 puffers and BBGs are both low-end brackish water fish and generally work fine at SG 1.003-1.010. Precise salinity couldn't matter less.

Mail ordering fish is fine, but make sure you get a guarantee on live arrival. If the vendor will not offer this, don't take the risk. BBGs aren't at all rare in the trade, so even if you don't get them now, buying them some other time is easy.

There are many small gobies that might work well, but none are as widely traded as BBGs. I happen to like Redigobius balteatus, the rhinohorn goby, and at least some shops round here can get another superb little goby, Chlamydogobius eremius. Whichever goby you get, if you're keeping them with puffers make sure you give the goby some sand for digging and rocks for hiding under. Puffers can be nippy, but usually ignore fish that hide underneath things.

Exactly that. If you decide to keep the aquarium at SG 1.003 instead of 1.005 or 1.008, it doesn't matter. What matters more is that you don't make the salinity change too much each water change. Basically pick a number and stick to it. Providing good water quality (more water changes!) is much more important that get paranoid over precisely what salinity a brackish water fish wants.

Cheers, Neale

Thanks for the info but what do you mean by Precise salinity couldn't matter less

My SG fluctuates between 1.003 and 1.008 when i do changes, so as Neale says as long as its not much itll be fine :)
