Hi,
I currently have a 90 litre tank with 3 silver sharks, 3 gold gouramis, 5 clown loach, a rainbow fish,a common plec and a bristle nosed plec in it.
For the last couple of days the two larger of the female gouramis have been nibbling the base of each others tails, no sores or parasites are visable and they both allow it to happen with no attempts to swim away.
Does anyone know what is going on and can they suggest what to do?
Thanks for your help,
Chris

Are they all females?

If so get a male. This is unusual behaviour as females never fight.

Tank is 90 litres? Sorry but think you are way overstocked - the gouramies need more space to live as a trio even if they are all females, 1 on its own might be ok. Please don't get a male - you don't have room. Also - the clown loach should get to well over 1 foot long so no good in 90 litres. Not sure on sharks but pretty sure they get big also. Check out the fish species index at the top of the main forum for potential sizes of gouramies, clown loaches and silver sharks.

I know we will get a bigger tank as the fish get bigger they are only about an inch long right now but thanks for your concern.

The loaches are fine for know as it takes 6-10 years to reach full size.

Do get a male if you want them to breed

since most stocking guidelines are made in gallons, i'd just like to remind you that the easiest conversion is 1 gallon = 4 lites. so a 90 L tank is about 23 gallons

(if you want to be very specific, a gallon is really 3.78 liters. but that conversion is tougher to do off the top of your head.)

Thanks for all the help i bought a male and all the fighting has stopped .

Once again thanks for the help!!!!

Chris

I'd keep a close eye on the male as they can be very aggressive, especially in such a small tank.
