After adding water and tap safe, how long do you let it stand before adding it to the tank?

& below are my 2nd tanks readings from start date , should i have done a water change? would this have affected the plants had i not.

& (last question) why is my catfish leaving more poo than all of my 8 other fish put together? i think he's responsilbe for my increased nitrate spikes.

2nd tank cycle. (fishless cycle, untill 2 fish began attacking their tankmates)

12th may
media added. & 50% water from other fish tank added.stress zyme added.
NH3 (ammonia): 0.0 ppm
NO2 (nitrite): 0.0 ppm
NO3 (nitrate): 0.1 ppm

13th may
pearl gourami added.
plants added, sand added,
NH3 (ammonia): 0.25 ppm
NO2 (nitrite): 0.25 ppm
NO3 (nitrate): 0.1 ppm

14th may
1 angel added.

15th may
both fish removed.
NH3 (ammonia): 0.5 ppm
NO2 (nitrite): 0.25 ppm
NO3 (nitrate): 1.0 ppm

17th may

NH3 (ammonia): 1.0 ppm
NO2 (nitrite): 0.5 ppm
NO3 (nitrate): 2.0 ppm

30% water change.
stress zyme added.

Need some more info. First whats the tank size? Second a cycle doesnt happen in 1 day. A properly done fishless cycle takes 4 weeks to a month to do. There is a very good topic on fishless cycles in the forum section. This will provide you with info on that. Also what type of catfish do you have? Chances are, your in for a fish in cycle with means water changes every day untill your close to the end of the cycle. Any ammonia over .5 means immediate water change. This must be done every time its over .5 until you read 0 ammonia AND Nitrite for a week every day without a water change.

EDIT: Here are links to info:

i have a 145 litre thats up and running for 6 months now. the catfish is a Bristlenose Catfish, he's only 4" long and has been leaving loads of loads around the tank.
i just purchased a second hand 60 litre tank in which i threw in media and water to kick start it.(there is no one in it atm)
I had to throw an angel and pearl gourami into the 60 tank, i think its livebearer food1 and livebearer no 2 or the waste from the fry in a hatchery that is making them go super agressive.

(i'm sorry i am terrible at explaining myself)
water and tap safe, do you have to let is stand before adding it to the tank? ive been leaving it for a few days, but my 145 litre spiked very high nitrate levels

ah, I see what your saying. The issue your having is the time the tank didnt have any fish in it killed off the bacteria. If the bacteria doesnt have any ammonia source it dies off thus your having spikes and it like you didnt cycle. If you can add more media from the larger tank then that may help but since you already took some from there you may not want to unless you sacrifice the larger tank to a mini cycle. have you been feeding the BN any odd food? Also by aggressive what do you mean?

BN spends 90% of his time on the bogwood, i have yet to pick up food for him (well he's pooing alot) there was small amount of algea growing everywhere.
pearl gourami has had my dwarf gourami hidden behind the heater, he's been harrased and nipped every minute or so , ive just figure out that pearl looks like a female and dwarf is a male.
after "timeout" my gourami's are chasing each other a little.
i had gupies 5 babies last week, ive been feeding them liquid fry1 and when i clean the hatchery the scum from it is promptly eaten by pearl G .
ive a feeling this (or the fact they ate the other babies) is whats making the tank aggressive, or i foolishly picked up and african clawed frog and now no one can relax as he swims around alot.
and im a tiny bit overstocked.
one of those,, ummm possibly all of them.

My little angel has chased my bigger angel around the tank, has shredded his tail a bit and left some marks on his side.
when i reintroduced the angel they kissed/fought for about 5 seconds and seem to be keeping apart.
