Ok total newbie here with limited plant knowledge so be patient with me and my silly questions. I have just purchased a Fluval Roma 125 and would like to have it planted. I currently have a 60 litre cube with 5 amazon sword plants ( 4 in pots and one runner) few crypts and a big anubais which is doing quite well floating near the surface. They are just in normal gravel and get fed plant food once a week i have no special lighting and they seem to be thriving. Hoping to transfer plants into new tank. Am i best to just keep doing a weekly feed or is there any other method eg substrate that can go under gravel which can hep them grow better. Looked at CO2 units and far to complex and expensive for me. Thanks for reading

I'd start with substrate, There's tons of plant based ones for sale. You can take a look at these here :

They are costly but they all promote plant growth.

The plants you have a fairly easy growers so light wont matter unless you want other plants.

I also suggest doing daily dosing instead of weekly as plants may use up all the food before the week is over.

Lastly, CO2 is insanely cheap. Yes, It costs around 100 quid to buy all the stuff but after that you are speaking 10 pounds every half a year in CO2 bottle refills and that's it.

Thanks will have a browse so if i get substrate then gravel over the top with some very fine gravel which i already have, then dose tank daily or weekly i should have some healthy looking plants. Without the need for CO2?

You could always buy liquid CO2 but if your plants are fine without I doubt you need it.

Dose daily, Just divide the weekly dosage by 7.

Thanks got some Tetra Plant substrate and more plants coming tomorrow so will see how they do with just this and weekly feeding. New tank arriving too so will have a fun weekend setting it up. May have to post some pics once it gets going :D
