I currently have a 125l Rio juwel tank. And I am looking for a few
pointers on what I should add next.
Current setup has the standard canister filter fitted with the provided
heater to keep the tank at about 22C. Tank has been set up for 1 week
2 days. After 5 days I added 2 goldfish. They were re housed from my
sister who was keeping them in a small plastic tank. The were carnival
fish prizes and the are about 2 years old.
Plants currently in the tank are all potted in ceramic bottomless pots,
as this is a recommended thing to do according to Internet articles
when goldfish are concerned.
Tank substrate is “large†coral sand.
Plants are:
3x Vallisneria (unsure of exact type) (grow seems very poor/ none existent)
3x Alternanthera reineckii
3x Limnophila sessiliflora (growth is currently booming)
2x Cardamine lyrata (growth is extremely fast. Almost ever stem is getting a new leaf bud every day and is in the process of wrapping its self around bog wood )
1x Bacopa monnieri (growing ok at current set up)
Water quality is
Ph: 7.8
Ammonia is currently reading 0ppm
Nitrate and nitrite is also reading 0ppm
KH is approximately 350ppm (water is my area is very hard as its from
under ground sources.)
GH approximately 400ppm. PPM were from the sheet provided with the
kits were a number of drops corresponds to a set ppm.
1) Should I be worried about this hardness level and be adding a
softener to the water?
2) Any suggestions on other good fast growing plants that I can add and how may other goldfish or fish I can add. Current research seams to discourage community tanks with goldfish.
Is it a good idea to actually use top soil as a substrate with in the plant pots. One article I was reading endorsed this.
