I'm in the process of rehoming my beloved but very angry Firemouth which leaves me with a space to fill in my community with a largish peaceful Cichlid.

How would one of these guys fit in with my current stocking?

I heard they grow no bigger than 5-6" is this true?

Or should I just leave my tank how it is for extra space? the temptation will probably overcome me next time im in a LFS tho ;)

Festivums tend to fit nicely in between Severums and Angelfish in terms of size, build and temperament, so in IME if you think your tankmates would be fine with a boistrous Angelfish or a placid Severum then they will be fine with a Festivum

iv got one say 3" most with 5 angels and it seems alright with them some of the angels shy away when it gets near to them but overall it is a peaceful fish
iv read that females get 8" when males are only 6" but that was just a reference from this site

Sounds liek the ideal fish for my set up..sadly my LFS hasent got any in so i'll have to wait until i get one :p

Can they order them for you? I hope you can complete your stocking real soon. I love the look of your cichlid community. I wish I could have a severuym, but I don't have the tank size, or the room in my house for a 75 gallon tank. I hope you can find this festiivum soon, just so I can see some pics. :good:

It sems most of the shops around here are saying they are near impossible to get hold of now :(

What else should I go for?

I want a nice colored peaceful replacement for my Firemouth.

Preferably no bigger than 6"...any ideas?

I have heard that t-bars and Sajicas have a lot of Convict traits so maybe these guys would not be such a good idea?

Niceeeee although rare and expensive i bet!

There isn't much info on them, but if you found that picture you probably saw the same thread I did about them.

I found some of those fish for 10$ AUD (probably around 5 pounds or 5$ USD) in a mixed cichlid tank in the lfs. Didn't buy any of them but as I don't have a set up to put them in.

edit: by mixed cichlid tank I mean those "all fish in this tank 10$" ones with 20+ juvi random cichlids

How about Cryptoheros Sp "honduran Red Point" or Amatitlania siquia as they are now called. Basically they look like a blue convict with a red belly at times. A lot of speculation about them being just a convict strain but they have been examined quite recently and been given the name Amatitlania siquia which differs from the convict apparently they have internal differences (organ placement etc) as well as the exterior. Size seems to differ from report to report but seems to average out for males to be 5 inch and females smaller. The other good thing about these are that they are much less aggressive than the regular cons as well. Ive got a pair on reserve :) and they will be taking center stage in my new tank. Just need to work out my tank mates (if any)

All really good suggestions but again hard to come by much like the Acara above and the Festivum.

Keep them coming, Gives me something to look out for :)

Is the HRP convict like in behavior? I tried convicts twice with my stock (1 adullt @ 6" and 1 baby at 1") and they were terrors,I also tried Juwels which again were to aggressive and my current Firemouth is a nuisance.

Can anyone tell me a bit about Jade Eyes and T-Bars? I always get the 2 confused, they look to me like very small Severums with convict like bars but always quite dull in colouring (although i have seen soem nice pictures, mainly of displaying males)

So far as I have read and been told they are much more placid than convicts I get mine either tomorrow or saturday so I can let you know my observations, I'll be posting pics as well :)

Just bought 2 Festivums for £3 each :) also got a True Blue Acara while I was at it (I swapped him for my nasty Firemouth and my Green Severum)
