The natural way is to tie, or glue as i have seen done, the ferns or moss to wood or stone. Is this for any reason other than to stop it floating off?

I assume the roots of the plants basically act like ivy in so much as they stick the plant to its host as opposed to borrow the roots in?

Should that be the case then hyperthetically i could attach the plants to any ornament in the tank...... right?

Java moss will attach itself to absolutely anything after a certain amount of time however I'm not too sure about Java Fern. It may be safe to stick to tying it to bogwood and what not.

Thats cool, was going to use wood for the fern any way but hoped that the moss wouldn't be so fussy.

Thank you

Just make sure that if you buy the java moss online, you get a healthy batch. There's been a few problems with some sellers on eBay selling it to people unhealthy or even dead in some cases.

Yeah i've seen the posts. I'll probably get it from my LFS to be honest.

That's probably your best bet. You don't have to worry about the bad conditions while it's being posted then either.

Yup, the roots of java ferns eventually attach but it isn't a quick process thats why everyone uses fishing line or glue. I've found glue (cyanoacrylate) easier to use and more effective, but fishing line is just as good once you've tied it!
